Dr. campitelli asks the question, are exogenous ketones right for me? She explains that taking products like keto os are very beneficial to the body. She further explains that there is a distinctive difference between nutritional ketosis, exogenous ketones, and diabetic ketoacidosis. Nutritional ketosis is the process of your body breaking down fat as a source of fuel which creates ketones. This only happens when a person follows a very low carb diet that is high in fat. A person can drink exogenous ketone bodies without pushing the body into nutritional ketosis, bit it still elevates the ketones in your blood. Diabetic ketoacidosis is a dangerous state which occurs in the absence of insulin. Without insulin, the blood sugar level rises the body thinks it is starving so it starts to produce ketones. So a person with Diabetic ketoacidosis may end up with elevated levels of blood sugar and ketones which may be toxic. This cannot occur if there is insulin in the body.
